FAQ

Corporate Tax (T2):common questions.

When is my corporate tax return due?

A T2 return is due six months after your corporation’s fiscal year end. Any balance owing is generally due two months after year end, or three months for CCPCs that claimed the Small Business Deduction and meet certain conditions.

What is the Small Business Deduction?

It is a reduced tax rate on the first $500,000 of active business income earned by a CCPC each year. In Ontario, the combined federal and provincial rate on that income is 11.2% for income earned from July 1, 2026 (it was 12.2% before Ontario cut its small business rate), compared with 26.5% on income above the limit.

Should I pay myself a salary or dividends?

It depends on your personal cash needs, RRSP and CPP goals, and the corporation’s tax position. Most owner-managers benefit from a tailored mix, which we model for you each year.
